The German Kirstens look quite different from the Mattel China Kirstens. Take a look at my Kirsten album in my signature and click on the pictures to see them close-up (original size) and compare her to your Kirsten. Mine was bought from Pleasant Co. in 1986, so she's for sure German and if your Kirsten's face mold looks the same, yours is German too. If you compare my Kirsten to one in the catalog, you'll see the faces look very different. The hair on Mattel Kirstens are also more honey blond and silky; the German Kirstens had more ash blond hair and it was coarser. I had a Mattel Kirsten briefly for resale before Christmas and was surprised at how much she was different from German Kirsten. Hope that helps!

I also have a 1980's West German Kirsten. Her face is thinner and her skin tone is darker, her hair is more coarse and darker than the current Kirsten. Please excue my poor Kirsten's messy hair. She has been my friend for many years and is quite well loved!

The Kirsten I bought my daughter (from ebay) came with a dress tagged "Made in West Germany for Pleasant Company 1986". Back then were all of the dolls made in Germany? Is there a way to tell if her Kirsten is a German made doll? The vinyl is obviously preMattel, and she does not have a tag on her body (her body is beige). She also has the artist mark behind her right ear.
Thanks for your help!
